Brick Slips Update at Richmond Square

Brick Slips Update at Richmond Square

October 15, 2025

Continuing Our Partnership with Hacer Group

We’re excited to be working once again with Hacer Group on Richmond Square, applying our expertise in brick slip façades to another landmark development in Melbourne. Richmond Square is a bold, design-led precinct by Fortis, brought to life by SJB Architects with interiors by Hecker Guthrie.

Located just steps from East Richmond Station, the project combines premium residences, curated retail and wellness spaces within one vibrant urban destination.

A Landmark Development in the Heart of Richmond

Richmond Square spans a 2,730sqm site tucked between Swan and Church Streets, featuring around 2,200sqm of retail space at ground level. Rising above the podium are two residential buildings, Wiltshire House and Carmine House, each offering a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, as well as penthouses.

With construction progressing steadily and completion expected in 2026, the development is set to become one of Fortis’ most notable mixed-use projects to date.

Designing and Delivering Our Brick Slip Facade System

Our scope at Custom Clad covers the full design, supply and installation of the brick slip facade system. We are installing over 150,000 NexBricks from Modular Masonry Group across the two facades, supported by a custom-engineered steel framing and rail system that we designed in-house.

Every brick, bracket and framing has been carefully detailed to ensure perfect alignment, structural integrity and visual consistency across the project’s complex geometry.

Distinct Architectural Identities and Colour Expression

Each building expresses its own architectural personality. The first adopts a warm, textured palette composed of approximately 80% Chapel Red bricks and 20% Lygon Coffee bricks, creating a rich and timeless tone.

The second embraces a more striking and contemporary appearance, featuring green glazed bricks that deliver a vivid contrast and instantly draw attention within the Richmond streetscape. Together, these facades bring depth, rhythm and material variety to the overall design language of the precinct.

Pushing Boundaries in Facade Design and Innovation

Richmond Square stands as a meaningful project that continues to push our team creatively and technically. Working at this scale required a new level of precision, coordination and innovation, challenging us to refine our design workflows, integrate new systems and think beyond conventional cladding solutions.

The project highlights how we continue to expand our expertise beyond traditional metal faxades into advanced brick slip applications, reinforcing our commitment to quality, craftsmanship and design excellence.
