Custom Clad supplied 2,200msq of solid aluminium-based cladding for the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre new car park and entryway in Southbank.

This project was part of the $300 million expansion of the Centre and the South Wharf precinct, undertaken by Plenary Group. The new facade features in the entry area, surrounding the 1,150-space multi-storey car park and the Hilton Hotel entrance.

We collaborated with aluminium powdercoating specialists to create a bespoke gold-inspired finish that harmonizes with the existing aesthetics of both the Convention Centre and the Hilton Hotel.

Given the operational requirements of both the Convention Centre and the Hilton Hotel, all cladding installations were conducted exclusively at night by Custom Clad personnel. A significant challenge was the installation of the link bridge over the main vehicle access route, necessitating a rigorous traffic management strategy for safe delivery.

The complexity of working on a live site was further compounded by the concurrent construction of the new Novotel Hotel, with over 700 workers on-site at any given time. This required careful logistical management to ensure safe and efficient access for all trades and subcontractors throughout the project's duration.
