Redefining Conventional Roadside Fuel Stop

The United Petroleum service station in Corio, Victoria, designed by Peddle Thorp Architects, redefines the conventional roadside fuel stop through its striking architectural form. Situated along the Princes Highway on the industrial outskirts of Geelong, the building distinguishes itself with two dramatic, blade-like canopies that extend skyward, creating a sculptural silhouette against the flat landscape.

This innovative approach positions the station as both a functional facility and a bold architectural statement, reflecting a forward-thinking vision for fuel retailing and industrial design.

This project involved the installation of over 3,000sqm of Alucoil Larson aluminium composite panels. The design featured a combination of timberlook and white finishes for the main facade, complemented by bold blue and red accents to reflect United Petroleum’s branding.

This project presented significant complexity due to the building's dynamic geometry, characterised by sharp angles and sweeping canopies. Each panel required precise fabrication to accommodate the unique shapes and measurements, ensuring a seamless integration with the architectural design.

The design incorporates dynamic cladding lines and warm materials such as timberlook aluminium, fostering an inviting atmosphere that contrasts with its industrial surroundings.
